Let's Eat

July 6, 2017

Over the course of the past couple of weeks food has commanded a large portion of my funds. As a college student I am normally accustomed to eating ramen or whatever food I find at the restaurant I work at. But, during the summer time I like to splurge a little and I have discovered some amazing spots in the DMV area and one great place in Philly that I wanted to share with you all to check out if you are ever in the area!

The first place is Matchbox at Pentagon City in Virginia. The vibe of the restaurant is very upscale modern, they have cute booths everywhere and some cool hightop near the bar. Great for happy hour with your girlfriends or for grabbing a bite to eat with the fam for dinner. I had the pleasure of going with some of my cousins and we hit up the happy hour menu for sure because it all sounded so good! I decided on the sangria and spicy mini meatballs which came with garlic bread and mozzarella cheese. The service was amazing, our server was so helpful because it was my first time there and all the food was delicious!

Now, for those of you who attend "Curl Talk" you already know what the deal is for this place. Red Rocks DC on H street is a prime location for millennials, it has 3 floors with DJs on all floors as well as full bars and a rooftop that can be tented in case of rain! My first time going to Red Rocks was last summer for Trap Brunch, the place was packed and the whole place was lit. We got there just in time for brunch and of course had to get the pitchers of mimosas. I decided to take a dip into the lunch portion of the brunch and got pizza which was amazing and spicy just like I like it!

Let's keep it in DC for a quick second. For my Sunday Funday with my Bestfriend Tacha we decided to check out a place we had never been before and stumbled upon The Fainting Goat DC. This restaurant is the perfect place for Sunday brunch, their bottomless mimosas are $17 and well worth the price let me tell you! They were so good (just make sure to drink responsibly -- disclaimer). The whole theme of the restaurant is in the title, goat. So, they have a ton of dishes with goat cheese in it but Tach and I just wanted a couple items to share and pair with our mimosas so we got Avocado Toast and a Coffee Cake. I love anything with avocado on it so you know the toast was bomb, even though I am not a fan of picked onions they set the toast off and gave it a ton of flavor. The coffee cake came out warmmmmm! I almost died and came back to life when I tried it, omg it was so good and filing! If you need a new and fresh place to check out for brunch definitely give this place a try.

Like I said earlier I am a college student and what do college students need more than sleep? COFFEEEEEE. Right in little old Towson is one of the best places to grab a good cup of coffee and a healthy breakfast, lunch or snack. Cunningham's Cafe is in the famous Uptown Towson area and is a great spot to get quality coffee and food and get some studying in. The cafe is right below the restaurant and is open during the hours the restaurant is not. This is my go to anytime I need to get out of the house and get some blogging done or do some work for school. The prices are good for students on a budget and the food is healthier than a cup of ramen. They have areas to plug-in your lap top and outside seating just in case you want to enjoy your coffee outside!

Next stop on our tour through Baltimore is the famous Miss Shirley's Cafe. This is one of the best places to get an amazing brunch they have a scratch kitchen so everything is prepared fresh. If you want to get a seat you better get there early because they are always packed but it is well worth the wait. I went a couple weeks back and my friends and I of course had to have mimosas and mojitos, they were phenomenal and matched out equally phenomenal breakfast. I was trying to be "healthy" so I got the banana boat granola and yogurt bowl.... with a side of pancakes (what can I say I love carbs). Both my roommate Rachel and Bestfriend Tacha got Chicken and waffles and my girlfriend (vegetarian that she is) got the fried green tomatoes topped with crab. Yes, I tried everyone's food, but you already knew that and it was all full of flavor and all the yummy goodness anyone could ask for. The pancakes were nice and fluffy and ya girl walked away with a full stomach and smile on her face! Definitely check this place out if you take a trip to Bmore!

If you are ever in need of a good happy hour, because I always am, I have the remedy for you. Go to PF Changs, my other bestfriend, Olivia and I are frequents at the Towson location because who doesn't love $5 glasses of wine and $6 apps? I know I do and being college we are always on a budget so definitely hit up your local PF Changs for the happy hour goods. It is normally from 3-7pm Monday-Friday.

Right around the corner is one of my favorite places to get a quick lunch or dinner with friends and that is BJ's Restaurant and Brewery. My drink of choice is normally a cocktail but if you like beer they have an extensive collection of beer that they brew in house. I haven't had the guts to try any of them but my friends rave about it. Their menu is pretty extensive and they have everything from flatbreads to pastas! I normally get the Louisiana style pasta which is a broken down person of Jambalaya but on this day I decided to switch it up and try the Club Flatbread. I am sucker for anything with Avocado on it so I figured why not. It is normally very quite on the weekdays there so its the perfect place to bring the paper or a book along with you to enjoy while you indulge in all their delicious food.

During an exploration through the Eat More Baltimore page on Instagram (@eatmorebaltimore) I stumbled upon this place called Order & Chaos Coffee, then I saw one of my friends went there too days later so I had to do some investigating myself. I was doing some site visits in Baltimore for internship anyways and didn't have to be into work until late afternoon so I figured I would head there to get some blogging and reading in. The place is connected to a digital marketing company and is so cute and modern with lots of white space and pops of color. They are famous for their waffle and I love strawberries so duh I got the waffle with strawberries and finished it off with a chai tea latte. Everyone in there was so nice and checked on me a bunch of times before I left to make sure my experience was great. They provide free wifi and a nice quiet space to get some work done. I will definitely be going back to indulge in more of their coffee drinks and hell yes I am going back for more waffles!

Last but certainly not least, last week I took a trip up to Philly with my good friend to do a shoot and he told me that we had to stop by this place called Green Eggs Cafe not one thing about me is, I'll try pretty much anything so I'm like alright lets do it. So, we walked on over to the north side of Philly and made our way into this cuuuuuteeee little restaurant that serves brunch daily. They had the nicest set up on the tables and everyone was so nice about helping us through the menu because I was a first timer. But, make sure if you go, you bring your cash because they don't play. NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED. By now y'all should know if brunch is involved I'm getting a mimosa, duh. The Salted Caramel Banana stuffed French Toast is what caught my eye and y'all, when I tell you I was in heaven. I WAS IN HEAVEN. The dish was so bomb and so filling I couldn't even finish it. Word of advice. Go to Philly, and go to Green Eggs Cafe, forgot the Philly Cheesesteak, this is all you'll need!
